Overview
The old boat ramp is high, dry, and miles from the lake, but the ramp provides access to the edge of Las Vegas Wash. From near the end of the old boat ramp on the right-hand side, an unsigned but well-defined trail runs southeast, but this trail is now also high and dry. Even so, there are plenty of brushy places along the wash to look for Abert's Towhee, Say's Phoebe, and winter sparrows.
Birders can walk past the end of the old ramp to access the edge of Las Vegas Wash. Look for songbirds in the bushes and trees, and look for waterbirds in the wash.
For people who what to bird over the lake, head east to the 33 Hole area, which is now (Feb 2025) just below the Las Vegas Wash delta.
