Desert Evening Primrose (Oenothera primiveris)

General: Desert Evening Primrose (Oenothera primiveris) is an annual forb that grows in dry, sandy soils as a clump of highly notched leaves (rarely entire leaves) on the ground, then puts up big, yellow flowers. The flower buds grow upright, and the sepals are short (12–25 mm) relative to other yellow-flowered Oenothera species.

Desert Evening Primrose is a fairly common component of vegetation communities in dry, well-drained sandy and gravelly areas on desert flats and lower bajadas into the lower mountains in the Lower Sonoran (Creosote-Bursage Flats) and Upper Sonoran (Mojave Desert Scrub) life zones.

Family: Evening Primrose (Onagraceae)
