Lincoln's Sparrow (Melospiza lincolnii)

General Description: Lincoln's Sparrows (Melospiza lincolnii) are sexually monomorphic songbirds. The most consistent characteristics are the tan gular stripe and striped breast. The sides of the head and nape are gray, the crown has two reddish stripes separated by gray, and the breast usually has a buffy wash with fine, dark stripes.

Taxonomy: Passeriformes, Emberizidae.

Favored Habitat: Wet places with brushy cover.

Lincoln's Sparrow (Melospiza lincolnii)

Where to Find: Around Las Vegas, Lincoln's Sparrows are not common, but watch for them in wet places with brush such as Corn Creek, the Henderson BVP, Floyd Lamb Park, and Willow Springs at Red Rock Canyon NCA.
